CADAM Drafting Changes in V4R1.9
System Changes
NT Environment Enhancements
- Dockable Tool Bar with Memory
The CADAM FK toolbar will now "remember" its last configuration and orientation for each individual user.
- Tool Tips
Tool tips are now fully implemented and provide helpful information on the usage of buttons.
- Enhanced Key-in Line with Memory
The key-in line will store the last 15 entries and has a pull-down interface to allow users to access previously entered values. Users can also cut and paste values from the key-in line to/from other Windows applications.
- Optionally Start Models with or without a Shown Axis
From the File menu pull-down, users can choose to have new models started with or without a shown axis block.
- Drawing Currency
Within the Files pull-down menu, users have access to immediately call models that have been opened previously. These "currency" models are now stored on a individual user basis.
- Enhanced Windows Clipboard Functionality
New Command Bar ButtonYou can copy a bitmap image from CADAM Drafting to the Windows clipboard in order to export the image to another Windows application.
A new command bar button, ACTIVE, has been added. Using this button, you can change the active view, layer, or overlay member.
Indicate Snap ModeYou can now work in an "indicate snap" mode, in which positions or locations that you indicate will be snapped to points of interest on various geometric elements. On a line, for example, the endpoints or midpoint can be snapped to. In order to snap to a point of interest on an element, you must indicate close to that point of interest. Otherwise, the indicate operation will not snap to a specific location. To turn on the "indicate snap" mode in your current CADAM Drafting session, do the following:
AIX and HP-UX: in /FILE/ + /PROFILE/ + /SETUP/, turn on the Indicate Snap switch.
Windows NT: under the Options pull-down menu, select Device Settings. In the Device Settings dialog box, select the Indicate Snap checkbox.
Special Character Window Dictionary Function
You can use the dictionary in the Special Character window to define standard, commonly used text strings that can be accessed when creating and editing text-bearing elements. To activate the dictionary, a dictionary drawing called cadam_dict.cdd must be in the $CCD_ROOT/DRAWINGS/system/stdnote directory. A user-modifiable sample dictionary drawing is provided with this release.
To use the dictionary:
- In the Special Character Window, select the DICT button.
- A new window is displayed containing the dictionary drawing. You can move and size this new window.
- Select a note from the dictionary drawing to copy it to the Special Character Window. You can select several notes, which are concatenated in the Special Character Window.
- If you select a note from the current drawing when COPY MODE is active and the dictionary window is open, the note is copied to the Special Character Window. The dictionary window remains open to allow you to combine notes from the current and dictionary drawings.
Aux View Change
There is a new menu option in AUX VIEW:
/ALL/ Fills the window with the currently active view. To cancel this option, de-select the /ALL/ menu item.
CADEX Change
CADEX is available as an optional CADAM Drafting product.
CADPROF Change
New System ParameterA new system parameter has been added: Centerline Overshoot. Use this parameter to specify the overshoot value for defining centerlines on arcs, circles, and ellipses.
Axis StylesA new system parameter has been added: Axis Style. Select Default, X,Y notation, or H,V notation to specify the axis block style displayed in the drawing window. By default, the axis block appears as a two-headed arrow. The X,Y notation labels the X and Y axes, and the H,V notation labels the X and Y axes with either an "H" or "V".
To set the "indicate snap" mode in cadprof, turn on the Indicate Snap switch on the Input Device Customization panel.
FK Detail Change
STDLIB Preview CapabilityUsing FK DETAIL /STDLIB/, users can preview standard library parts before placing them on the current model.
FK Dimension Change
Global Dimension ChangesGlobal dimension changes now apply to all types of dimensions. Using menu option /GLOBAL/, you can modify the specification settings of multiple dimensions in a drawing.
External File Translator (EFT) Changes
Mtext and Leader Entities AddedThe Mtext and Leader entities have been added to the list of supported entities for Input Mapping Schemes.
Multiple Model TranslationYou now have the ability to translate several models simultaneously to or from the DXF/DWG format.
FK File Change
/PLOT/ Menu Option (AIX and HP-UX)When using /PLOT/ + /SCHEDULE/, you can select function key FILES in the model list page to return to the main menu of options.
If you need to edit a plot request file, you now need to access the following menu option in either /PLOT/ + /REMOTE/ or /REMOTE/ + /PLOT/:
/REQ MGR/
When you are remotely scheduling a plot for mainframe CADAM models, you can now enter a host logon ID and password using the /HOST SECURITY/ menu option. Use this option if your host logon ID and password are different from your mainframe CADAM logon ID and password.
Accessing Remote File Systems (AIX and HP-UX)When you are working with files on remote file systems, the menu options in /REMOTE/ will remain active in Function Key FILE.
Remotely Plotting Mainframe CADAM Drawings in CCD for Windows NTSee the PLOTTING section in this document for details about this new feature.
FK Group Change
In /LAYERS/ + /MODIFY/, the Layer Management panel now displays additional information:
- The line weight is shown in the Line Style column.
- If a layer is empty, an "E" is displayed to the left of the layer number.
ICF Server Change
The new version of icftran, 1.11, supports the following activities:
- Display lists of models stored on remote file systems.
- Call models stored on remote file systems.
- File models, either on the remote file system, or on the local file system.
- Delete models from remote file systems.
- Copy models on remote file systems.
- Rename models on remote file systems.
- Move drawings on remote file systems.
Interactive User Exit (IUE)
on AIX and HP-UX:
A new batch utility, mdlupd, is now available for users who have drawings from very early releases of PROFESSIONAL CADAM, and who need to transfer the drawings to CADAM Drafting on Windows NT using ICF. This utility allows you to perform the following batch operations on CADAM drawings:
- Rename drawings in a specified group, user from the old naming convention (D_xxx for drawings, and O_xxx for overlay parents, where xxx is the model ID) to the new CADAM Drafting naming convention (xxx.cdd for drawings, and xxx.cdo for overlay parents, where xxx is the model ID).
- Open drawings in a specified group, user and file them in a specified group, user with the new CADAM Drafting naming convention. At the same time, this operation updates older drawings to the current release version.
The mdlupd utility is stored in the $CCD_ROOT/IUE directory as a sample IUE program.
FK Line Change
CenterlinesWhen you create a centerline for a circle, arc, or ellipse using menu option /CNTR/, the centerline is associated with the element for which you created it. This means that if you move or resize the element, the centerline is moved or updated accordingly. However, if a centerline is modified, the association is broken.
Horizontal or Vertical Lines of Unlimited LengthYou can now specify up to five X or Y values when creating horizontal and vertical lines of unlimited length.
FK Note Changes
Text on a CurveUsing Function Key NOTE, you can now place text on a curve element by selecting a curve, specifying the justification and location of the text, and typing the note text.
Select Note to MoveWhen moving a note’s location, selection of a second note is now a valid x,y destination.
Plotting Changes
Remotely Plotting Mainframe CADAM Drawings (Windows NT)You can now plot a mainframe CADAM drawing from your Windows NT CADAM Drafting session.
Two menu items are available for remote plotting in menu option File:
Areafill Stroke Line WeightPlot Setup...
Allows you to specify the remote plotter you want to use, the remote group, user, and the number of copies you want to create.
