What's new in CADAM Drafting Version 4 Release 2.4
The following changes have been made to the CADAM Drafting product since Version 4 Release 2.3.
New character strokes
Strokes for several new characters have been added to the CADAM Drafting character table to support customers migrating to CADAM Drafting from the Helix and MICROCADAM products.
Advanced Mouse Button Functions (Windows only)
Right mouse button clicks can now be used to edit element properties (color, style, width, etc.) and to operate on elements (erase, no show, add to group). Right clicks over open space can also be used for mode switching, such as current view/layer/overlay, and for editing current model properties and modal settings. See the section on Using the Advanced Mouse Button Functions in the "Getting Started with CADAM Drafting V5 on Windows" document for information on activating these functions and for a complete description of the available functions.
Group Properties (Windows only)
The Advanced Mouse Button Functions has been enhanced by adding the menu item Group Properties. This option will appear in the context menu when a temporary group exists and will allow the user to modify the Style1, Style2, Width and Color properties of all valid elements in the temporary group.
Additional Accelerator sequences added to support the CADAM Drafting Keypad (Windows only)
A series of cntl+shift accelerator sequences has been added to enhance the usability of the new CADAM Drafting Keypad. (See www.cadam.com for more information about this new product.)
Preview Images (Windows only)
Small preview images can now be saved with a CADAM model. This image is displayed on the "Open" dialog panel when a drawing is selected, allowing the user to see a small image of the model before actually opening the model.
LUM 4.6.2 support (Added in Refresh 2)
LUM 4.6.2 is now supported for use with CADAM Drafting.
Support for Czech characters (Windows only - Added in Refresh 2)
20 characters have been added to the "01" character page to support the creation of text bearing elements using Czech characters.
HP-UX 11.0 Support (HP-UX only)
HP-UX 11.0 is now supported by CADAM Drafting Version 4 Release 2.4.
AIX 4.3.0 and 4.3.1 support removed (AIX only)
AIX 4.3.0 and 4.3.1 are no longer supported by CADAM Drafting Version 4 Release 2.4. This release now requires either AIX 4.3.2 or 4.3.3.
AIX Version 5 support (AIX only - Added in Refresh 3)
AIX Version 5 is now supported for use with CADAM Drafting as of 424 Refresh 3.
Searchable documentation (Windows only - Added in Refresh 3)
A searchable version of the documentation is now provided with the product. This version is launched by selecting Contents from the Help menu. This documentation can also be accessed directly by double-clicking on the CCDSearchableDoc.chm file in the CCD_ROOT\En_US\Help folder or by placing a shortcut to this file on the desktop.
Windows XP support (Windows only - Added in Refresh 3)
Windows XP is supported for use with CADAM Drafting V4.
Windows 95 support removed (Windows only - Support removed in Refresh 3)
CADAM Drafting V4 no longer supports Windows 95.
LUM 4.6.4 and 4.6.5 support
LUM 4.6.4 and 4.6.5 are now supported for use with CADAM Drafting. Note that one of these releases of LUM is required for use with Windows XP.
Additional Windows Language Versions Supported (Windows only - Added in Refresh 3 PTF2)
CADAM Drafting will now run on Central European, Eastern European, Russian, Turkish, and Greek versions of Windows.
Function Key DIMENSION Changes
Display of dimensions with no text
A dimension with no text will no longer display with a locator dot in place of the text.
Dimension text clearance factor now applied to JIS dimensions
The "Dimension Text Clearance Factor" is now applied to JIS dimensions. In previous releases it had only been applied to ISO and IBM dimensions. Unlike ISO and IBM dimensions, this factor is only applied to JIS dimensions that are created in CADAM Drafting V5R5 and above, or 424 and above. Users wishing to have these newly created JIS dimensions display with an identical clearance to pre-existing dimensions will need to change the default factor from "1.0" to "0.333333".
Flag to remove new dimension text clearance when JIS dimensions are transferred to MF CADAM (Added in Refresh 1)
When new JIS dimensions created in CADAM Drafting V5R5 and above, or 424 and above are transferred to MF CADAM, the text clearance displays differently than pre-existing JIS dimensions. A switch has been created that will force all JIS dimensions to display with the old style clearance. To activate the switch, place a file (containing at least one character) named "oldjis" in the CCD_ROOT/PROFILE directory. Note that, upon return to CADAM Drafting, these transferred JIS dimensions will continue to behave as pre-424 dimensions.
Function Key GROUP Change
FK Group, /GROUP/ had a new menu item (/EXACT/) to enable the user to be more selective when performing a group by type operation. By selecting this option, the user is able to group elements that exactly match the selected element's generic and sub-generic type. This option can be useful in differentiating between the various CADAM Drafting symbols (Triangle, Rectangle, Dot, Rivet, etc.), for example.
Function Key HRAS Change
Location of character recognition files
Character recognition files that are created by the user will now be stored in the user's HOME directory instead of in the "current" directory.
FK Line Change
Line divide feature (Added in Refresh 2)
The new line divide feature creates lines that divide the area between two existing lines into equal spaces. To divide an area, the user specifies the number of spaces into which the area will be divided, then selects the first bounding line and then the second. The appropriate number of new lines are created, equally spaced between the two selected bounding lines. The newly created lines are the same length as the first selected line, except in the case where the intersection point lies on the first selected line. This function is accessed in FK Line, menu item DIV.
Implicit points when creating PT-PT lines (Added in Refresh 3)
When selecting existing lines to create a PT-PT line, CADAM Drafting now determines whether the selection was closest to an endpoint or a midpoint of the existing lines. The closest of these points will be used as the defined endpoint of the newly created line.
FK Relimit Change
Relimit both ends (Added in Refresh 2)
The new relimit both ends feature allows both ends of an element to be relimited in a single operation. For example, if a horizontal line is intersected by two vertical lines and the user wants this line to be relimted to both of the vertical lines, they would select the BOTH ENDS option in FK Relimit, select the line to be relimited, then select each of the limiting lines. The horizontal line would then be relimited to fit within the two vertical lines. At this point, the user can press YN to flip the line to be relimited to the outside of the veritcal lines.
FK Symbol Change
Allow arrow attach point to be moved (Added in Refresh 2)
The arrowhead attach point of an existing arrow can now be repositioned. This is done under FK Symbol -> Arrow -> Edit. If the arrow to be edited is selected on the arrowhead itself, then the arrowhead attach point will be moved to the subsequently indicated point. If the arrow is selected anywhere else on the arrow, the previously available repositioning options will apply.
Plot Current enhancement (Windows only)
The Plot Current function no longer requires the model to be filed before plotting.
Preserve drawing name when creating output file name (Windows only)
A new plot option, PLOTOUTSFX, has been added to allow the user to specify that the model name should be used when creating the plot output file name. (Currently, a random name is generated to ensure uniqueness before the file is sent to the plot queue.) This option also allows the user to specify the file suffix to be used.
Style1 linestyles on small circles
When the circumference of a full circle falls below the size of a full Style1 pattern repetition, but remains above the "Minimum Dash Length", three pattern repetitions will be used when plotting any full circle with a Style 1 linestyle applied. The pattern will be scaled uniformly to allow the full three repetitions to be applied to the circle's circumference.
Sample plotscripts for PDF and TIFF output (Windows only)
Sample plotscripts showing how Postscript output can be converted to PDF and TIFF files using available 3rd party software is now included in the CCD_ROOT/PLOT/Samples directory. Plotscripts included in this directory are simply samples. It is the responsibility of the user to obtain any necessary 3rd party software and to configure the software and script properly for their environment.
FMTFIT=ONLY,xsize,ysize will scale the format to fit within the boundaries defined by xsize, ysize but will not effect the scale of the geometry within its borders. However, if the format is scaled down to the point where it is smaller than the geometry within its borders, the geometry will be clipped at the outer border of the format.
Automatic Sorting of Plotter and Format tables
Plotter and Format tables are now automatically sorted. The plotter table is read (and sorted) once at the start of the CADAM Drafting session. The format table gets sorted every time it is re-displayed.
This new option specifies that the plot data scale stored in the model should be ignored and that the value specified as "n.n" should be used.
GEOMSCALE=SIZE,x,y option (Added in Refresh 1)
This new option of the GEOMSCALE parameter will automatically set the plot scale such that the geometry will fit within the specified xsize,ysize limits.
SCALEDASH option (Added in Refresh 1)
In previous releases, dashes were always plotted at the size specified in the "Length of Dash Segment" and "Length of Space". The plot scale did not affect the display of dash segments and spaces. Setting this new option to "yes" will apply the plot data scale to the "Length of Dash Segment" and "Length of Space" parameters if the plot data scale is less than 1.0. These parameters will not be affected if the plot data scale is greater than 1.0.
User definable Postscript accuracy (Windows only - Added in Refresh 2)
The user can now specify the accuracy of Postscript plots. This is done with the new "%ac" parameter in the Postscript ".def" file. The parameter is followed by an integer number that specifies the desired DPI accuracy in hundreds. For example, specifying "%ac 2" would produce Postscript plots with a print accuracy of 200 dots per inch. A new default "psc.def" file is supplied with CADAM Drafting which sets this value to 300 dots per inch. Previously, the accuracy of Postscript output was fixed at 100 dots per inch. Note that, while setting this value higher will result in more accurate output, it will also result in larger Postscript files and, therefore, slower output performance.
Plotter table sorting (Added in Refresh 2)
The plotter table is sorted and refiled whenever the user adds or modifies a plotter table entry.
Plot data not needed when batch plotting (Added in Refresh 3)
When batch plotting, it is no longer necessary for plot data to be defined in the model(s) to be plotted. If plot data is not present, a Window ALL will be performed. The resulting extents will be used for plotting the model.
Single queue plotscript (AIX only - Added in Refresh 3)
A new plotscript has been added. This plotscript simplifies the process of setting up print queues on AIX as it does not require a separate backend queue. See $CCD_ROOT/PLOT/onequescript_hp2.
IBM generated license now used
As of 423 Refresh 1 CADEX on the Windows platform is officially available through IBM as part of the CADAM Drafting CADEX PRPQ (RPQ#P99014 - Product ID 5799-CAX). As part of this official availability, the Windows version of CADEX now requires an IBM-generated license. If you are currently using CADEX on the Windows platform, and are using a license key that was created by Dassault Systemes for a release prior to 423 Refresh 1, you will need to obtain a new license from IBM.
Several CADEX enhancements
- Additional report type 'netlist' is added to generate a netlist report for the Electrical application.
- For each fromto and netlist report, a file in .csv format is created in addition to the report created in a model.
- Automatic Numbering for wiredata for fromto and netlist reports. (see p.456-457 in the CADEX User Guide)
- Automatic naming and Back Annotation for shield, twist, coax and cable. (see p.457 in the CADEX User Guide)
Add wiredata to netlist report (Added in Refresh 1)
When a netlist report is generated, any blank wiredata will be replaced with a non-blank wiredata found within the same net.
Traceable lines (Added in Refresh 3 PTF3)
Lines can now be traced, whereas previoulsy only multilines could be traced.
Windows panels (Windows only - Added in Refresh 3 PTF3)
The Diagnostic Messages, Extraction Options, Sheets to Trace, Generate Report Names, Views to Trace and Traceable Lines panels are now all implemented as Windows dialog panels.
AutoCAD 2000 Support (Added in Refresh 1)
DXF and DWG files generated by AutoCAD 2000 are now supported.
Ellipse handling options (Added in Refresh 1)
The OMAP_ELLIPSE parameter has been added to allow the user to specify whether ellipses should be exported as true ellipses or as a polyline approximation. Ellipses exported as AutoCAD ellipses will now maintain their linewidth attribute if AutoCAD 2000 is specified.
Select between mtext and regular text (Added in Refresh 2)
A new output parameter has been added to determine whether text is exported to DXF/DWG using mtext or regular text. The parameter is OMAP_TEXT and can be set to either "mtext" or "text". The default setting is "mtext". Access to this new parameter has also been added to the interactive export parameter panel.
Import of splines defined by control points (Added in Refresh 2)
AutoCAD splines that have been defined using control points can now be imported into CADAM Drafting.
Solid areafill support (Added in Refresh 2)
Solid areafills having no pattern are now translated to DXF solid hatch elements.
Improved color mapping (Added in Refresh 2)
Color mapping has been improved so that color conversion is done directly from RGB values rather than simply matching color indices.
Improved linetype mapping (Added in Refresh 2)
CADAM Drafting linetypes are now mapped much more closely to AutoCAD types.
Improved width mapping (Added in Refresh 2)
Heavy, medium and light lineweights are now mapped to .1mm, .3mm, and .5mm, respectively. Pen widths (from STYLE2) are mapped to the defined pen width for each pen.
NC line handling (Added in Refresh 2)
NC lines are now mapped to a separate layer upon export to AutoCAD. Upon re-importing, lines on this layer will be mapped back to NC lines.
User definable line weight mapping (Added in Refresh 3)
The user can now specify the line width to be used in creating the DXF/DWG file when mapping heavy, medium and light lineweights. These values can be specified interactively on the parameters panel or in the config file using the OMAP_HEAVY, OMAP_MEDIUM, and OMAP_LIGHT keywords.
NC lines placed on a separate layer (Added in Refresh 3)
NC lines are now placed on a separate layer when exported to DXF/DWG.
Enhanced linetype mapping (Added in Refresh 3 PTF3)
The linetype mapping option has been significantly enhanced. Support has been added for STYLE2 linetypes. Also, these linetype definitions will be placed in the exported DXF file. See "Specifying Line Types" in the EFT documentation for more information.
Sample line and shape definition files (Added in Refresh 3 PTF3)
Sample AutoCAD line and shape definition files are now provided with CADAM Drafting in the DXF\lines_and_shapes folder. You can use these files with AutoCAD to more closely approximate CADAM Drafting linestyles.
Absoft ProFortran Version 6.2 certified (Windows only)
The Absoft ProFortran Version 6.2 compiler has now been certified for use with IUE application programs written in Fortran.
IUE Macros Toolbar (Windows only)
The IUE Macros toolbar allows the user to run IUE programs without going to the IUE function key. This new function consists of a drop-down menu containing a list of all available IUE programs and 5 toolbar buttons to which individual IUE programs can be assigned. Selecting a program from the drop-down list or selecting one of the assignable buttons will immediately execute the selected IUE program. All IUE programs that are located in the CCD_ROOT\iue\bin directory will appear in the drop-down list.
IUE Macros Toolbar Program List (Windows only - Added in Refresh 1)
The user or system administrator can now specify which IUE programs will appear in the IUE Macro Toolbar dropdown list. See Customizing CADAM Drafting Toolbars for more information.
Support for Windows OLE elements (Added in Refresh 3 PTF3)
Limited support has been added to IUE to handle Windows OLE elements that may be embedded in a CADAM Drafting model. This support includes traversing for OLE elements, retrieving extent data and deleting existing OLE elements.
Point Size Specification (Windows only - Added in Refresh 1)
The system administrator can now specify the displayed size of points in the Drafting Customization panel in CADPROF. Valid sizes range from 1 to 24 pixels.
Default Detail Import Library (Windows only - Added in Refresh 1)
The system administrator can now specify the default directory for Detail Import in the Drawing Management panel in CADPROF.
Default Logon Data (Windows only - Added in Refresh 1)
The system administrator can now specify a default logon ID and password for any defined CADAM file system on the Define CADAM File Systems panel in CADPROF. It is also now possible to specify that the logon panel be skipped. See Summary of Steps for Installing an ICF Server for more information.
